Artist Statement
Specializing in oil painting, she first began learning art in 2016 in Seoul, South Korea. A long-time writer and journalist, she found both energy and solace in painting. Her works primarily depict nature and travel, which bring her peace of mind. She showcased her artworks in group exhibitions in Seoul in 2019 and Calgary in 2023.
I find peace in untouched nature. Nature, which emits various lights and constantly transforms by donning new appearances, always captivates me. This connection with nature began during my childhood. Growing up in a military family in South Korea, I was frequently exposed to new environments as we moved from place to place.
I quickly learned to observe new people and environments in order to adapt to unfamiliar circumstances. After becoming independent from my family, I pursued a career as a writer and journalist, dedicating my energy to exploring social issues and helping others understand differences. These experiences made me both sensitive and analytical, leading me to seek inner peace. I found this peace in nature, away from the complexities of human relationships, social norms, and the expectations that often held me back. Nature, while seemingly complicated, is harmonious—it constantly changes, yet always returns to its origin.
My creative process begins with the small elements of nature—wind, water, and air—things that exist beyond human reach, without borders or conflict. I capture the essence of cold air, warm light, and the movement of the wind in my paintings. Everything I see, everything I’ve experienced, becomes part of my artwork. I want viewers to pause, stop interpreting, and simply find calm in front of my works. My primary mediums are oil and acrylic paints. I use perspective and realistic representation techniques to make the observer feel as though they are in the scene.
